How hard a storm can hit and completely toss everything you thought you had a grasp on into a pile of scattered nothing.
My newest body of work hangs July 21 at Who's on First in OC, NJ. It's a dual show shared between me and the amazing Laura Mayer. We really seemed to struggle with the title since both of our artworks have share a similar subject: words, text, context...however there wasn't really a word to describe that.
It really came down to location and why we were doing what we were doing. For me..this show is a location I always hope to be able to show in. It was the first venue that gave me a solo exhibition. I have shown there twice a year for four years now.
This year, after the hurricane, the backdrop I was so familiar with had changed. I'm a map artist. Location defines my work...and I, personally, move around a lot as well. I haven't "lived" in NJ in two years, but it's still my home. The devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy was a story I thought I wanted to tell in this collection. I also wanted to be able to give back to a community and a shoreline that has given so much to me and my artwork over the years.
The show will hang from July 21 - to Aug. 4 (but don't go see it until the 22nd because Sunday is the day it gets hung and it's chaotic during a hang.) Laura and I decided that we wanted to create limited edition prints of each of our artworks, that would generate 100% profit to Rebuild/Recover; and NJ grassroots non-profit that has done AMAZING things for our coast. The only way we were able to do this is because Copiers Plus of Ocean City/Marmora donated us 50 prints - 25 each; selling at $40.00 each we can raise $2000.00. Please help us and continue to help rebuild our homes and our coast!

It's all about location. xo
